Principal: Anna McNamara BA MA Ed ATCL DDI FRSA SFHEA

Anna has a BA Theatre Studies from Rose Bruford College and an MA in Education. She trained in Musical Theatre at the Guildford School of Acting, where she was awarded the school’s Choreography Award.  Anna has achieved Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) from the University of Gloucestershire, is a member of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) and holds an Associate Diploma from Trinity College London in Principles of Instrumental/Vocal Teaching.  Anna is currently researching a PhD in Actor Training through the University of Birmingham and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Since 1999 she has been a teacher of dance, drama and singing. Anna is Director of Learning and Teaching at the Guildford School of Acting. Anna has taught at Arts Educational School London, Battersea Arts Centre, London Academy of Performing Arts, Pinnacle Academy Overseas Workshops (Italy, Spain and Greece), Polka Children’s Theatre, PPAcademy, Redroofs Theatre School, Stagecoach Theatre Arts (as a teacher trainer both in the UK and in Germany) and St. Mary’s School, Ascot, where she was Teaching and Learning Coordinator and has been an examiner for AQA GCSE Drama.

Anna is the founder of the Guildford Summer Youth Project and Guildford Christmas Youth Project, Electric Theatre, Guildford, and produces the annual Easter and Summer Theatre Schools at The Theatre at the Mill, Newtownabbey, Northern Ireland.

As a performer she appeared in numerous commercials, voiceovers and photographic shoots, performed in ten pantomimes, taking leading roles in many, and in concerts, galas and cabarets at venues including the Royal Festival Hall and Sadler’s Wells.

Other credits include; The Good Neighbour at the Battersea Arts Centre (Choreographer), The Maroon Balloon at the Pleasance Courtyard, Edinburgh Fringe Festival (Director), Oh! What a Lovely War, Hear My Song, Starlight Starbright (Director), Art, Journey’s End, A Doll’s House (Producer), West End Story, Nightingale (Choreographer) at the Electric Theatre, Guildford, 16 Gobs at the King’s Head, Islington (Director), Speed Dating-the Musical, Upstairs at the Gatehouse and the Battersea Barge (Director).  As a writer, her plays for children have been performed across the UK and as far afield as South Africa.
